Remeber that dude who implanted the magnet in his arm (himself, on camera) so he could have his iPod with him without using pesky things like hands or pockets? Well, It’s getting weirder. The Australian artist Stelarc, who was putting things under his skin way before magnet man, gave an interview to Wired about his work. Stelarc has an ear implanted in his arm that he pans to wire so that people can hear what it hears via the internet. He also did (or was) a piece called Ping Body--he wired his major muscles to electrodes and let people move him around with a remote. And right now he’s working on growing a second skin out of microbes and building a robot to walk around and take pictures inside of him (hopefully it has Instagram).
It’s all pretty insane, but not the kind of insane where you can’t imagine it being completely normal in a decade or so.
